Parque El Palmeral
Escape from the crowds and head to Parque El Palmeral – a lush public park on the southern outskirts of Alicante. Picnic beneath gently swaying palm trees or navigate the lakes and waterfalls by boat, all the while serenaded by exotic birds and a cool sea breeze. A children’s theatre springs to life at the centre of the park every Sunday during the summer months, with the park staying lively until 11pm even in the winter.

Look down on the city from the imposing heights of this mini-mountain rising up behind Alicante’s old town (El Barrio). Spare a moment to look out for the Santa Barbara Castle and La Ereta Park, which are both crafted built on to its side.

Jijona
Found in foothills of a mountainous region 25km north of Alicante, the town of Jijona (or Xixona in Valenciano) is a mouthwatering day trip 365 days a year for two reasons. In summer the town busies itself with ice cream production, while in winter it produces the finest variety of Spain’s devilishly sweet Christmas treat túrron. The town’s dedicated túrron museum, Poligono Industrial Ciudad del Turrón, is another very good reason to visit.

Buses to Alicante stop at the 30 bus stop and run every 45
minutes from 0630-2310 with a journey time of 35-40
minutes.
